Annotation
The MA Music in Culture and Society is a distinguished Master's programme in musicology in which you learn to understand, analyse and interpret music as an integral part of various cultural practices, processes and communities. Rarely has the role of art and music in society been as sustainable as it is today in the context of post-colonial reappraisal, climate-political activism or cultural-political appropriation. In our Master's programme, we consider questions of social and cultural participation, with gender aspects, with practised and historically traditional patterns of perception and musical practices, with canonisation and attribution of meaning as instruments of cultural power, or with music as a cultural mediator between people and their environment. In this way, you will acquire skills in highly topical research discourses, which at the same time prepare you for challenges and problems increasingly needed today for a professional activity in the cultural sector. In addition to its special focus on content, the degree course is characterised by a structured and, at the same time, individual mentoring programme as well as a special participation in the life of the institute through our participatory principle.
