The degree consists of alternating theoretical studies at the university and practical training phases, each lasting a total of 18 months. Students learn about professional practice at their employers who hired them as employees before they began their studies.
During the application process, students in the "Law Enforcement Service" degree course choose between the specialisations "Operations" and "Investigations". Students who choose "Investigations" will receive a guarantee of a job with the criminal investigation department (Kripo) and a regional job offer from the recruitment and training authorities before they start their studies.

Training within the administration. No application directly at the higher education institution. Applications have to be addressed to the responsible hiring authorities. Studies start once a year as of 1 September.
In the so-called 'Vorbereitungsdienst' (traineeship) only those who fulfil the legal requirements for the appointment can be recruited to the civil service.
